On August 11, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is holding their annual drawing for the chance to hunt big game on the privately-owned Trinchera Ranch located in San Luis Valley. The drawing will be held at the Fort Garland-Blanca Community Center at 1 p.m.
Hunters aiming to beat out the other 350 to 400 applicants for the opportunity to hunt cow elk or doe deer on the 170,000-acre ranch can attend the raffle and try their luck at winning one of the 5 doe or 15 cow licenses that are available to Colorado residents only. You can get a complete list online of acceptable proof of residency documents required if you win a license.
Those who want to enter the drawing need to show up at the community center between 9 a.m. and noon on the day of the raffle to fill out an application. The form must be completed in person. It is not required that applicants remain until the end of the event, but they are encouraged to stay if possible. Applicants can find the Garland-Blanca Community Center at 17591 U.S. Highway 160 midway between Fort Garland and Blanca.
To comply with COVID-19 safety standards, the Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff will offer a drive-up service for applicants so they can remain in their cars while dropping off the raffle form. Applicants are asked to wear masks when interacting with staff and stay inside their vehicles when possible. If an applicant steps out of the vehicle, they are asked to remain six feet apart from other parties.
